Excerpt:

DuBois Park was a showcase of Gore-tex and hiking shoes Friday afternoon.

Four buses disgorged about 200 people who had spent the past two days cooped up in the Outdoor Industry Association's annual national Rendezvous, this year held at the Vancouver Convention Center. With sunshine poking through the clouds in the Vancouver Heights neighborhood, the conferees were ready to roll up their sleeves.

..."We hope this will inspire the neighborhood to take ownership of this project," said Will Scrafford, regional coordinator for the Washington Trails Association. "Maybe they'll come a bit farther out to the deeper reaches of the wilderness."
